Why is Battlestar Galactica Being Cancelled if it's so great?

If Battlestar Galactica is such a great show, then why are they cancelling
it? It hasn't been on very long and they made very few episodes.

The pilot was broadcast in 2003, that's five years ago, and there has
been 70 episodes.

It will end with around 85 episodes, which is hardly "very few."

Sometimes you can only tell so much story in 85 episodes. British
shows do it in far less, in most cases, too.

Additionally, there's only so much revenue you can make on a cable
series, especially an expensive science fiction series with loads of
special effects. Making 85 can sometimes be seen as quite an
achievement for a cable series.

If you watch the show, you know it was structured to tell a finite
story which is now just about over. If you don't watch it, why are you
even involved in this discussion?

It wasn't cancelled. The producers themselves decided to conclude the
storyline. I like the idea. It's really annoying when you have a series
that has a constantly evolving storyline, then it just stops. Think ABC's
science fiction series INVASION. It just stopped, with nothing resoved. By
ending it before it's cancelled because people's interests move elsehwere,
they can conclude the story, then make loads of money in syndication and DVD
boxsets.

It wasn't cancelled. It was ended by the producers just like "Star Trek: The Next
Generation" and I believe "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" were. They did it in this cas
because they felt that it had a definate end to the story. There will be a prequel
series "Caprica" NOT set on the Galactica and very few if any BSG characters
appearing. There will however be at least one loose end prequel movie maybe,
(hopefully) two more movies (set during the time period of the show, not after it so
they won't be true sequels) and then that is it. BSG was and is an EXCELLENT show. It
is just some times that the producers have the desire to tell a certain story for a
certain period of time and let go. The producer of "Babylon 5" was the same way.

Well, just about every statement that you made is wrong. It wasn't
"canceled", the producers of the series decided to pull the plug after this
season. There is nothing more pathetic than a television series that doesn't
know when to end. I'm sure they could have "jumped the shark" for several
more seasons, but the show has already been on for 5 years. That’s far
better than the first BSG series. There were over 80 episodes produced.
I'm sorry, but as a troll, I can only give you a 3.5 out of 10 for this
one. I deducted massively for posting this to a non-scifi group. Also, you
would have had a much higher score if you would have included
alt.tv.scifi.channel. Really, you must try better next time.
