From an editorial in The Sydney Morning Herald
"THE world is rightly in awe of Chinese technology. It is rivalled only by its determination to put the best face on the Olympics, especially if that face belongs to pretty little Lin Miaoke and not cute but snaggle-toothed Yang Peiyi. After the counterfeit ethnic children and digitally enhanced fireworks, nobody would be surprised if the opening ceremony proved to be no more than a shiver of electrons, a chimera in cyberspace. Yes, there was a real stadium, with real performers and a real audience. But what if China's politburo had been very unhappy with the dress rehearsal: fireworks not bright enough, performers not talented enough, and quite a few members of the audience disappointingly plain? On the night, a blemish-free digital re-creation of the opening ceremony could have been beamed out to an unsuspecting audience around the world. Would you have spotted the difference? One thing is certain, though: expect a Chinese moon landing soon." |

On Aug 15, 5:33 pm, "L.A.T." quoted, in part:
"One thing is certain, though: expect a Chinese moon landing soon." LOL! Cepricorn Two notwithstanding, I think this offers little support for those who doubt the American one. John Savard |
