Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that it has stopped production on two PlayStation 3 titles that were in development at the Sony London Studio - Eight Days and The Getaway. A statement from the Corporation read as follows: "It has been agreed that production of both Eight Days and The Getaway will cease immediately due to the redistribution of resources and budget. "This decision was made following an internal review of all games and it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future, resource should be reallocated to enhance those projects closer to completion. "Worldwide Studios has a reputation for innovative and entertaining games, with titles such as LittleBigPlanet, SingStar,Buzz, EyeToy and Eye of Judgement, and will continue to push the boundaries on all PlayStation platforms." The move follows shortly after the appointment of Shuhei Yoshida as the head of Sony Worldwide Studios, replacing previous company icon Phil Harrison, who departed to take up the role of president at the re-imagined Atari. Eight Days was first announced at E3 in 2006 with a trailer showing a mixture of what appears to be in-game action and cinematic footage, involving a shoot-out at a remote truck-stop in the Arizona desert. The Guardian reported just a few weeks ago that the title was "just ramping up to full production," suggesting that the decision was taken only recently to terminate the title. The Getaway, which was due to receive full attention once Eight Days had been released, was apparently still in the early stages of development. Sony London Studios was previously responsible for the fantastically successful SingStar and EyeToy franchises. There has been no indication that the decision would result in any redundancies. UPDATE: It has now been confirmed that these projects have been shelved permanently, and work is not scheduled to restart at a later date. |

Ok step right up folks, place your bets, it's the Blig Merk Wheel of Excuses Game. Place a bet on which excuse Blig Merk will give when responding to the cancellation of these two AAA EXCLUSIVE PS3 titles that have been ****CANNED after being promoted with slick pre-rendered or canned real-time demos at E3. 1. Sony Doesn't need The Getaway anymore with the success of GTA4 and the upcoming Saints Row 2. Eight Days was never really going to be a big title in their lineup, that's why you didn't see more about it 3. LOL at the XBOT FANBITCHES falling over themselves to laugh at this news when the XFLOP THREE****TY has only Gears of War 2 to crow about 4. Nobody cared about The GETAWAY or EIGHT DAYS except you SNIVELING XBOTS anyhow 5. METAL GEAR, HOME, and LITTLE BIG PLANET are the Trifecta of the PS3 this year, NOTHING else really matters. Winners get a zipfile full of filters and killfiles custom tailored to removing the diarreah that comes out of bliggy's 5 year old brain. Crappy games get canceled even more frequently. Who the hell cares about either of these games? If you check Gamespot or other gaming sites that track "anticipation factor" or "heat" in terms of upcoming game popularity, these aren't even on the radar. 3) Being a dumb ass in response to a dumb ass or to provoke a dumb ass still makes you a dumb ass. |

Well to be far I don't think PS3 owners, much less Blig Merk were on the edge of their seats about either of these games. Particularly The Getaway, the previous games in that series pretty much speak for themselves. -- NiGHTS/Nightcrawler [mWo] I feel asleep! "If Gods so ****in' perfect why'd he **** up on you?" |

Do *any* game manufacturers have a decent space flight sim/ shoot 'em up, in the wings? As far as I can see, all we have had in the last 15 years that actually had 'playability' was the old X-Wing/Tie Fighter Star Wars series and the (excellent) I-War (Independence War.) I'm sure I've tried a few others in the last decade, but they must have been rather less than memorable.. 'Nicking cars and slaughtering slightly realistic looking soldiers/people' - type games are 10-a-penny. Maybe that's what the average game player aspires to these days though? Ah well, I suppose I'll put my fifty quid towards that SII filter, instead. -- Rob |

Sony's official word is "You can't say we canceled a game we never announced! NYAH!" - Jordan http://kotaku.com/5017126/heavenly-s...-theory-moving Chalk this up as pure rumor for now. An inside UK source tells us that Heavenly Sword 2 has been canned by Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe. The game was axed after months in development because it is no longer seen as commercially viable, our source tells us. The news came during an emergency meeting set up for the Sony Cambridge team which was working on the game. On a side note, Ninja Theory, who have already said they weren't working on the sequel to their Playstation 3 exclusive, have grown increasingly bitter about their treatment at Sony's hands, our source tells us. I'm told that the development studio, which once had offices in the same building as Sony Cambridge, have started packing up to move to a new location. I guess when they said they wanted to move away from Sony and get into multi-platform development they weren't kidding. If true, this marks the third major project, counting Eight Days and Getaway 3, that has been canned by SCEE. Is the Europe arm of Sony in trouble? No clue, but we've asked for comment. |
