The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) will officially be born on
October 1, 2003. The new space agency is a merger of three Japanese aerospace/space-related organizations: the Institude of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), the National Aerospace Laboratory of Japan (NAL), and the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA).
