1x900 seconds
Intes MK-69 (6" f/6 Mak-Cass 900mm fl)
Vixen Sphinx SXD Mount
Sbig ST2000XCM

only took one shot while doing some test, I'll have to revisit this one
for more data.

that's a nice shaped galaxy and a perfect size for your FOV John. It will
look great when you get more data and I look forward to seeing it.

I heard about the severe rains over your ways, I am surprised to see you
with clear skies... But the weather can change fast over there, unlike here
in Northern Calif where everthing else is fast except for speed of weather
changes

I'll be interested in seeing how it does with more time. That's a good
start.

At it's severe southerly declination it is behind the wall of my
observatory. Seeing is so bad down there that's not a problem. I knew
that when I designed it. So I'll leave that fellow to you.

I hope you will be able to get more data on M83, we don't get to see many
pictures of these southern objects.

It's a nice face on... hope you get more data for it... looks like a lot of
good detail.

Go for it John!

I need to re-do this galaxy. I've attached an old ST-6 shot from 2001 that
is 15 minutes of exposure with the RC20 focal-reduced to F/5.

Think Kopernick is about 5 degrees south of me (I'm a tad north of 47.08
degrees). Still that's darned good for such a low object.

It only gets 13 degrees high for me. Down there my seeing is 10" on a
good night and extinction several magnitudes. You must have a lot
better low sky than I do. I look over about 10 miles of water. I'd
think that would help stabilize the air but it is broken by narrow
ribbons of land. Somehow that makes for really rotten seeing. Humid
warm air rising from the water (or ice) creates a large extinction zone.
-15 declination is about my limit. Doesn't help that when objects are
the highest they are in my meridian tree. That tops out at -10
declination. Fortunately its a rather old tree (over 100, likely about
130 based on when this area was last logged) so grows slow.
Unfortunately, it is growing sideways rather rapidly however. Most of
that is below my -15 cut off though.
