Astro : 47 tuc through a dob
For a laugh I held my Olympus 8080 camera up to a UO 40mm MK70 eyepiece on
my 17.5 inch Discovery Dob while it was on NGC104, 1.3 sec exposer, processing cropped, and slight contrast adjustment. It is a poor photo, but I am surprised that I got a result. |

It is a poor photo, but I am surprised that I got a result. When I was in New Zealand last year fog rolled in just as I it was getting high enough to turn the 14" reflector I was using on it. Through the fog it looked very much as it does in your shot. Don't think anyone ever posted a hand held globular shot before! I wouldn't have thought it possible. It sure must be bright. I lost the sky entirely a minute or two later. All other nights there were cloudy But it was about 3 a.m. in July so I had a lot of viewing time before the fog hit. What surprised me most was that I didn't have any problem viewing an unfamiliar sky while standing on my head. Rick -- Correct domain name is arvig and it is net not com. Prefix is correct. I got a 20-inch Dob to be my "visual and road scope" and I've been thinking of turning it into an imaging system ever since! After reading the rave reviews from a group that traveled to Australia for a week of deep-sky observing with big Dobs at a dark location, I may join in the next time they go. George N |
