Does anyone know whether there is a genuine Salisbury Astronomical Society?
Their e-mail addresses all bounce from all reference sites (including the FAS and the BBC) and the FAS cannot contact them either. Have they disbanded or merely not bothered to update their information......? Lawrence |

Lawrence I can't answer your question directly, but according to the BBC site they meet at Glebe Hall: http://www.early-oak.fsnet.co.uk/Winterbourne/glebe.htm You could try ringing the booking secretary for the hall and ask if they still meet there. It isn't uncommon for AstroSocs to have orphanned websites with wildly out of date info on. Most of the ones I have belonged to seem to have (at least) one antique site still resolutely detailing events 3 or 4 years ago. Regards, Martin Brown |

Hello Martin
How curious that no-one from Salisbury has taken the trouble to respond to this post! I think that tells me enough about them....... Reading Usenet these days is very much a minority sport. I would be surprised if *any* members of my old home town AstroSoc are reading this message now. (a decade ago there would have been 2 or 3 regular posters here) If they are still lurking here - hello to all at Salford Astronomical Society ! (their 40th Anniversary was this year - alas I didn't get back to it) Regards, Martin Brown |

Maybe you can answer my query anyway? Its a simple one. We may be moving to
the region. Is it OK for astronomy or do the army bathe the night sky in lights?
