Default Praktika Binouclars

Hi a little off thread but has anybody tried these binoculars I've seen in a
local shop. They are Praktika 20-100 X 70mm objectives. They look
reasonable but don't know what the eye relief is or flatness of the focus.
They're been sold for £75 I think there is a newer model which why they are
quite cheap? Obviously they'll need to be mounted for high mag use. Si has
anybody bought/tried some?
Regards Mark

I haven't tried these ones myself, but I have had some Praktica compacts
for general/nature use, and they were not very good. Zoom bins are
notoriously poor anyway.

FWIW I'd rather spend the money on a pair of Celestron SkyMaster 15/70s.

Think also, what exit pupil you are going to have. 3.5mm, at the minimum
magnification, and 0.7mm!, at the higher magnification. No binocular of
any quality, would even think of trying to offer this sort of
magnification. Even at the lowest magnification, they'll need to be firmly
mounted, and honestly, I'd suspect they fall in line with some of the
smaller 'high magnification' binoculars like this, that are typically
offered as 'incredible deals' in some magazines, which are not worth even
getting your 'bargepole' out for...

Best Wishes

Further to Andy's comments, I can recommend the 15 x 70 Revelation
binoculars Telescope house sell for £59.99 inc P&P.

If they still have them, they are the bargain of the year, complete with
soft case, tripod adaptor and straps, etc. I'm very pleased with mine, and
I believe they are almost identical to the Celestron branded ones.

Very best wishes and clear, dark skies.

I believe they are the same too - also similar to the Strathspey bins as
well. Mind you, these weren't around when I bought the Celestrons.

I have a pair of Practika 20x50's I got as a present. They are not very
good, producing a soft, poor contrast image. By contrast, my 10x50 Bresser
bins for £9.99 from Lidl's a few months ago are absolutely brilliant for the
money.

There is no such thing a a decent zoom binocular. Period.

Stephen
