Default Apollo 7 Saturn Question

Just picked up "The Mighty Saturns" set on DVD and have a question: what is
the chirping sound, immediately following main engine ignition? It is in all
the audio for the Apollo 7 launch clips and sounds a little like a cricket,
or a ratchet in the background. Any one know what that is?

Excellent set BTW.

Thanks. - pjo

Try the Gemini set. It's the same 'canned' audio track for every GT launch
:O And similarly - this one has a strange chirpy noise as well.

Weird, almost sounds like how some people describe a shuttle launch.

Gee, couldn't be they cheated is it?

I have some of the original live network TV-coverage of the Gemini
launches and that strange sound is there too. So it must be real.

"I saw it on TV, so it must be real, right?"

Is that the "screech" noise made by the solid motor turbopump
startup of the Titan's first stage Aerojet engines?

That would be my guess.

I detect differences between the different Titan launch sequences on the
Gemini set. I don't think that it's a canned track.

I was wondering about the Titan sounds, and did some digging. There's been
some discussion on this in the past, and the concensus is that it's the
turbopumps, which is what I suspected when I first noticed it.

This is probably part of the discussion in question:

Wow, I posted the original question about the Titan II engine start sequence
that Dan replied to.
Had no idea it had grown to a whole web page!

BTW, the Titan Missile Museum is an amazing, if sobering, experience. I
recommend it highly.
