Trinidad: Wreckage found on beach may be part of space rocket
Port of Spain, Trinidad: Wreckage found on the Moruga beach, south of here, over the last weekend may be part of a rocket owned by Ariane Space, a French company formed in 1980 and involved in commercial space launch services, investigators here have said. Police said that do not believe that the wreckage that came ashore on Saturday [6 September] was linked to the recent multi-million dollar cocaine find. The fuselage is white in colour and measures about 16 feet in length with the words "Defence Orbital" and the insignia "Ariane Space". The last launch of the French company was on 11 June, 2003, in which an Ariane 5G space vehicle carrying two satellites was put into orbit. The Ariane Space web site said that the Defence C-1 and BSAT-2c were two of three satellites successfully launched by the Ariane 5 rocket. Civil Aviation Authority officials on Monday said that they would be contacting Ariane Space about the wreckage.
