Is there a limit on the size of messages that can be posted here?
I've repeatedly tried to post a long one, and it just won't post. |

Different news servers have different settings for maximum file size. However, it's typically in the 500 KB - 1 MB range. ...Before I discontinued posting the Columbia Loss FAQ text version here, the size was approaching some 400k in size, and I never had a problem posting it. However, just because I didn't have problems with it doesn't mean *you* should do it. Remember, some of our overseas brethren are bandwidth-challenged, and large posts they *pay* out the wazoo for. OM Hell, some of our *domestic* brethren are still stuck in dial-up hell! (Not me: gotta love cable that AVERAGES 1.6MB/sec, no?) At my old house, not 15 miles from here but in a very rural corner of the county, was stuck at 44 kpbs dial-up and I was lucky to get it that good. That said, there is no reason for a non-binaries newsgroup to have posts that long, certainly not routinely. -- Herb Schaltegger, B.S., J.D. The problem is that there are groups dealing with binaries that have a legitimate reason for existence, such as those dealing with astronomy. Such limits applied arbitrarily cause more damage than not. Netcom pulled this **** years ago, and I dropped them like a care package from a Maxson.
