I am compiling a list of distance estimates of deep sky objects, just for my
own purposes. I want to annotate my observing notes with distances and perhaps draw schematic charts in the future. I show what I've found valuable below. I need help in locating: (1) Distances of emission nebulae (apart from planetaries) and reflection nebulae. The Cederblad catalog (http://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/Cat?VII/231) is supposed to have distances but it dates from 1946. (2) Better yet, if anyone else maintains an online consolidated catalog of distances, I wouldn't have to do this. This site: http://galaxymap.org/ has some interesting features. It's downloadable database has clusters, molecular clouds, HII regions and individual stars. Here are the sources I'm using so far: Open clusters: http://www.astro.iag.usp.br/~wilton/ http://www.univie.ac.at/webda/dist_list.html Globular clusters: http://physwww.physics.mcmaster.ca/%7Eharris/mwgc.dat Planetary nebulae: http://vizier.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/Cat?V/84 http://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/Cat?J/MNRAS/353/589 Dust clouds: http://vizier.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/Cat?J/A%2bA/383/631 Galaxies: http://ned.ipac.caltech.edu/level5/NED1D/ -Bill -- Sattre Press History of Astronomy http://sattre-press.com/ During the 19th Century by Agnes M.
