As you may know, the National Academy of Sciences has organized a committee
to evaluate options for extending the life of the Hubble Space Telescope (see http://www4.nas.edu/cp.nsf/852563d50053f0c285255d8b004e349a/4fe00675d8ef5a3585256e78005823e2?OpenDocument). Last night in the wee hours the C-SPAN public-affairs cable-TV channel in the U.S. aired one of their meetings. C-SPAN http://www.c-span.org has a habit of repeating these things, usually within one week of the event. So if you would like to watch a bunch of scientists and engineers grill NASA officials for three and a half hours, you may have another chance. Unfortunately, C-SPAN doesn't give much warning of upcoming shows-- they seem to assemble their schedule on the fly. So one needs to monitor the C-SPAN TV schedule link at http://inside.c-spanarchives.org:8080/cspan/schedule.csp a few times a day. I've skimmed and fast-forwarded through the tape at breakfast time, but haven't watched it extensively. I noted Ed Weiler, NASA Associate Administrator for Space Science, as one of the speakers, and Admiral Harold Gahman Jr., chairman of the Columbia Accident Investigation Board, as another. I will be interested to eavesdrop on the conversation when I get a chance to play the whole tape. -- ___ O~~* /_) ' / / /_/ ' , , ' ,_ _ \|/ / / - ~ -~~~~~~~~/_) / / / / / / (_) (_) / / / _\~~~~~~~~~~~zap! /__// \ (_) (_) / | \ | | Bill Higgins Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory \ / - - Internet: ~ New!
