Default Bad Fish for Good

Have you noticed the influx of farm-raised salmon in the supermarkets
in the last few years? At first it was just a lower priced
alternative. But it has gotten to the point now that some stores
don't even carry the wild salmon varieties anymore.

The Atlantic farm-raised salmon that is being sold today does not
taste as good as wild Chinook, and it is not as good for you. The
pen-raised fish don't have the high levels of heart healthy and tasty
oils that the wild Chinook have. Also the farm raised fish are
artificially colored with a pink die to make them look like a sea run
fish.

Now the testing of these farmed fish has shown they have a high level
of cancer causing PCB's. They have become just another one of the
foods at your store that contain cancer-causing substances (mostly
from preservatives). If the cancer rate weren't going through the
roof already, something would be funny! Who needs cigs?

It also has become another of the growing list of foods that have lost
their traditional flavor (tomatoes, strawberries, milk). I can
understand how people would rather pay $2.95/lb. for their fish rather
than $7.95/lb. But the your choice is gradually being lost, even if
you do have the extra bucks in your pocket.

Gresham's law states, "Bad money drives good money out of
circulation." In this case, it is the bad fish that are driving the
good fish out of the market place!

Correct Double-A, real food is almost going the way of the
Dinosaurs. Unless you have tasted and know real comparative food frame
you may not or won't be able to tell what you're really missing until
possibly too late. Truth in food labeling for that reason is so
important and however what a commercial interest lobby they have against
it. They recently locally caught a major school supplier selling so
called real apple juice to kids without a drop of real apple juice in
it.

you make a couple different points.

there is more aquaculture salmon in the stores
its harder to find searun salmon
industrialized farming has changed the subjective quality of taste.
plentiful "bad" fish is driving scarce "good" fish out of the market.

i can't disagree with any of them. its a good homework problem for
someone taking economics and looking at unintended consequences..

nice observing. as someone who doesn't eat much salmon, i didn't see
the situation develop.

See Fish Run!
Yes, that's what I thought ~
Just now, walking past,
Through my lobby
Goldfish pond ~
I stopped, looked,
Considerd, for the second time,
Geeez,
Those fish look strange!
Fins large enough
To walk on solid ground.
Hm, yes, I see.
Mum's original fish tale
Retold: Amphibians!
They're all onboard ~
All them fishies cruise now
Aboard the Royal Promenade!
Mum gave'em

Ever heard of walking catfish?

Double-A

Yes, I had one named Sam.
I think I killed him;
He was sick, and I poured
Too much medicine in his water.
