Default Saturn occultation - images

Hi Robin,

Had the clouds kept off for the Cassini event, I still couldn't have
captured it due to the terrible boiling as you describe. The seeing at
egress with the extra altitude was totally different.

Cheers
Ian.

I really hope you got something Robin, the Cassini reappearance would
be the icing on the cake wouldn't it!

Well I have posted an animated gif covering the period when the star was
supposed to be in the gap, but only for completeness as they are truly
terrible quality and don't really show anything, despite processing them
within an inch of their lives!

On reflection, imaging in IR was probably not a good idea as the rings
show
up bright and the star, being bluer than the sun would have been fainter.
It
did go some way towards steadying the boiling seeing though.

Robin

Here is an AVI stream from a french group at the Pic du Midi. Better,
larger instruments and better seeing. File is 6.95Mb et cover the star
reappearance at the South polar regions.
