I haven't been to the track in a while, but I think 9 dogs run in our races here. I think the horses are running right now. Here the dogs only run in the summer, and the horses run in the winter. I used to have a system based on one of the handicappers in the newspaper. I think I would bet some combination of his top picks, maybe a quinella box. One year I actually came out ahead for the season! Yes, I kept records. I think what happened was that the handicapper got worse in following years, and so the system stopped working. So I got discouraged and stopped playing the doggies. And yes Twitty, you can adopt a greyhound here too. I don't know though if you can adopt a horse. The government however used to have a program where you could adopt a wild mustang. Double-A Sad though how some traditions at the track have changed. The last times I went, I noticed that Rusty the Rabbit had been replaced by a large white bone leading the dogs down the track. All the banks of relay switches that had comprised the totalizing equipment had been replaced by a quietly humming computer. And the female dogs were no longer referred to as bitches on the program! Ah such revered traditions gone forever! Double-A |

Hi Double-A When a state makes a track pay 10 cents on every dollar
playing a favorite to show(big bet) was the best system. It was used by the "lady in red" for many years. $20,000 was her bet. Have not been to a horse track in 20 years. Always play 123456 in the lotto. that way I don't have to look in the paper. If those numbers came out it would be on TV all over the world. People laugh and call me crazy telling me those numbers will never come out. Two weeks ago 124 came out and paid $4.50. Bert PS its the 2 dollar better that can't win enough to make gambling interesting. |

People would go to the track and only bet on him. But like you said, the track had to make a minimum payout anyway. People would bet large sums of money, get a good return, and never lose a dime. The track probably looked at it as a cost of advertising, a way of drawing a big crowd. What bothers me is the 15% or more that the track and state take out of each betting pool. That means that you have to be able to beat the odds just to break even. In the lotteries, the amount taken by the states is obscene! I think they take about 50% out of each pool. When the mafia ran their numbers rackets, they were never that greedy. The gangs ran much fairer games than the states are running today! If any one in Vegas tried to run a game with that large of a house percentage, they would be put in jail! Double-A |

Hi Double-A There was a dog named "Lucky Pilot" That only lost one
race. He came in last that night at Wonderland dog track in Revere Ma. Win,place, and show paid $122 I was there and lost a $50 bet to show,(go figure) Still I like most made a good buck on that dog. He was so great. I lost a very close friend who committed suicide (Threw himself off the Chelsea side of the Mystic Bridge.) Once he had his legs broken by the Mafia This time he told me he was dead meat. He was only 20 years old. You have to pay your bookie, and a bookie is the most honest person. Love Vegas they have the best food. Love poker Woman love the slots, and strangely slots give a good return.(a 97% return at Circus Circus) Bert |
