May I recommend the top of Bleaklow or Kinder Scout (both 3 km from the

Dave, leave it out!! ) I don't think anybody would want to lug any
amount of astro gear up the side of Kinder or onto Bleaklow... I have a
VERY good knowledge of the topography round there and I wouldn't want to lug
my gear on to the tops !!

Now saying that.... there's Coopers Campsite in Edale which is rather
big..... BUT it dosn't have electric hook up as far as I can remember...
I was there last about 2 1/2 years ago...

There are two good pubs in the village (which is a very dark village at
night) and wash rooms.... but i'm not sure where we could have speakers
(apart from the local village church OR the rangers station at the end of
the village)..... should I be able to get any.....

Anyway.... I (for health and safety reasons alone) am ruling out the top of
Kinder and Bleaklow.. )

Cheers for the chuckle it gave me anyhow ) ROFL

Slightly more realistically from the lugging kit PoV, though probably not
for a star party, the top of Mam Tor on the other side of the Vale of Edale
is more easily accessible by road.

I recall walking up there (briefly, from a car) on a clear dark winter night
many years ago. Quite stunning, I've not seen as many stars at the same time
since then I think! It's a bit flat IIRC, so getting far enough from the
road to avoid headlights may or may not be troublesome.

Coopers has limited electric hookup now and they've built a very nice cafe.

The ramblers isn't the pub it once was, very posh and more
touristy/expensive meal type. The Nags head now that rocks!!

As you've said edale is very dark, coopers however has some nasty spot
lights down the caravan section by the loos but the top field is pitch
black.

that I knew you were joking...

You got your wires crossed me thinks...
