I think you can start showing the 12.5" PDHQ from Discovery the door
as well. $1299 for .5" additional aperature , no encoders, and no finder....CYA! BTW, I am 15 hours from completly rebuilding my Discovery 13.1" web special. Its purrty....(thats for you Rod ;-)) Discovery makes some nice scopes. I think the advantage that the Asians have is that the 12 inch OTA's are more manageable, 56 inches or so in length instead of 64inches and 48-50 lbs for the OTA instead of 60+ lbs. jon |

The scopes may have their weak points, but the mirror figures are NOT one of them...and I ain't exactly a Newtonian fan, pard. ;-) Peace, Rod Mollise Author of _Choosing and Using a Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope_ Like SCTs and MCTs? Rod, I am a newt fan, and a fan of any other properly executed telescope. I
have owned my share of mass produced newts. Out of the ten or so mass produced newts I have owned one gave razor sharp planetary images. The others gave soft images. I have owned some good newts with custom mirrors they are a horse of a different color. Why do you think the following paraphrase is so common, " My 4" APO blows away my 6,8, 10 inch newt on planets?" I have compared several APO's to several newts. Almost without fail the 4" APO gave better images of Jupiter than the mass produced newt. The only exception was a really good 8" F6 Meade EQ Starfinder I owned, and an 8" F6 Celestron Starhopper that belonged to someone else. The custom made newts without fail out performed the smaller APO's on Jupiter. The 6" F5 I own now is a tad better on Jupiter than the 4" APO's I have owned. The 4 mass produced 6" F8 scopes were not. Go figure. Clear Skies Richard |
