I just watched "The Invisible Boy" (most noted for having Robby The Robot in it in his first post-Forbidden Planet appearance) on TCM for the first time since I was a kid and was very surprised at how sophisticated the plot of that movie was. It's sort of a cross between "Colossus, The Forbin Project" and a Issac Asimov story, with a touch of BSG thrown in for good measure. In fact, I'm surprised I could even follow its plot as a kid. For something that was advertised as a kid's movie, this thing has some pretty horrifying stuff in it, including one scene where the evil computer tells the robot to start torturing the kid to get his parents to do what it wants, beginning by ripping his eyes out. Of course, the one that really put me clean over the edge as a kid was "Invaders From Mars", I avoided sand pits for years after that one. :-) Pat |
