I have often researched or contemplated launch rail systems, because your fuel/energy storage all get to sit on the ground and there is no penalty for having to lift the fuel itself up. I was just now contemplating an underground launch rail, which might either be vertical or at an angle, with the "muzzle" on the surface. Like any launch rail, it saves on cost of the projectile itself, which does not need staging, etc. BUT....here's the joke/pun, so strap yourself in and get ready!
