Real astronomy indeed !.
Did you discover that nothing supports the idea that the return of noon occurs in 24 hours exactly and that youi cannot justify the motions of the Earth by believinga star returns 3 minutes 56 seconds earlier - http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...3%A9reo.en.png I went to the bookstore to find a book to read over the Christmas period, normally a good book such as Sobel's 'Longitude',Cutler's geological 'Seashells On The Mountaintop,Winchester's book on Krakatoa and many others in the same vein turn up but this year there was nothing. There was shelves and shelves about sport but with all the vastness and magnificense of celestial and terrestrial creation and the enormous history behind ,it took up a few shelves with books that have already been out for years. No doubt your idea of 'real astronomy' is what has sent most of humanity to create heroes out of sportmen insofar as heroes are always required in any civilisation be it good or bad.The other heroes of humanity ,their enthusiasms, their methods and insights in investigating celestial and terrestrial phenomena are almost lost now, events conspired to create the 'scientific method' which destroys that faculty of curiousity which once caused the great astronomers to work out structure and motion within the solar systemn based on physical considerations. It is now so bad that men openly show a fictional difference between 24 hours and 23 hours 56 minutes using the motions of the Earth. Perhaps you all should read 'A Christmas Carol' before you peer into another telescope , it is about an incalcitrant individual who discovered that he reasoned himself into a miserable condition and found how goodness extracted him from that dismal existence,Christian goodness to be exact.Of course, there was nothing mediocre about the character Scrooge for nothing can be done with mediocrity.and especially astronomical mediocrity. If possible I would like it to be imaged in V, R and I filters but the good old human eye plus a telescope can also be used. http://www.martin-nicholson.info/sus.../discovery.htm Martin Nicholson, Daventry, England.http://www.martin-nicholson.info/1/1a.htm Visit the Astronomical Hall of Shame athttp://www.geocities.com/queen5658/ |
