What do you mean by reasons, Ray?...I didn't give any reasons. In so many
words, I simply said that the LXD55 sucks a lemon! I base my conclusions on hard and painful experience: I personally ordered an LXD55 AR6 more than a year ago. The first one didn't work, so I sent it back. The second one didn't work so I sent it back. The third one didn't work so I sent it back and called it "quits" on the LXD55. All of this consumed a lot of time, tied up my money for nearly a year and was a major pain in the butt...are you getting the picture? On top of this, I read horror stories regarding this mount on the dedicated Yahoo mailing list. These stories were posted on almost a daily basis and clearly showed that I was not alone...that this telescope (mount, different OTA's and accessories) was not nearly ready for prime time. I'm not saying that all LXD55's were troublesome. BTW, I'm happy that you got one that works. I am saying, however, that Meade has some big time problems if so many people had bad experiences. I don't know if Meade solved these problems, but I'm not willing to take a chance. Al "Ray Porter" wrote in message ... I disagree with Al's reasons since my LXD55 mount has been fine, right out of the box. Obviously a lot of people have had problems with the LXD55 though. Regardless of other LXD55 QC issues, Al and Rod are right. If these are the scopes you're considering, go with the Nextstar or an LX90 (my vote goes to the LX90). You'll get a much more capable and much easier to use scope for not a whole lot more money. The LX90 is just about the best scope out there for the money. Good luck, Ray Porter "Al" wrote in message news ![]() "chris CLARK" wrote in message ... Don't buy the LXD55 or you will have no views at all!! No kidding, these scopes are a pile of trouble. Get the Nexstar, or better yet, get the Meade LX90. Al |
