Hi All,
This is a question on behalf of a friend who has just moved to Oz (lucky chap) and who doesn't have internet access yet. He want's to buy a 80mm refractor, mainly for imaging, and he currently uses a 350D as his prime imager, although he may make the move into a smaller chip astronomical CCD camera at some time in the future. He likes the build quality and price of the Williams Optics Megrz scopes, and his budget would allow him to buy either the Flourite doublet, or the "non-flourite" triplet models with only £40 difference between them. His question is simply which model would be best suited for his imaging requirements? I can't help him as my only 80mm refractor experience is with the 80ED and BC&F Revelation 80 "Apo", both of which are doublet designs, and appear to have excellent colour correction to me when observing the Moon and bright planets, etc. I've no experience with triplet designs, although the marketing blurb from Meade for their new 80mm triplet would have us believe any triplet is superior to any doublet design. Your collective experience, observations and advice would be very much appreciated. Many thanks and clear, dark skies. -- Paul B, York, UK.
