I just decided to check out this newsgroup after some advice from others who post in uk.comp.sys.mac. I've just bought a Meade ETX-90PE (it'll be arriving today) and am hoping at some point to use my EOS300D with it once I get used to the telescope. What sort of settings do you have to use with it - I'm assuming in manual mode rather than any of the semi-automatic states? I see you stacked a few images to get pictures, but can equivalent results be obtained by using a bulb/switch to give longer exposures than 30 seconds, or is this not really the issue? Hi Rexx, As others have noted you do need to be able to track quite well and I use an EQ6 mount, polar aligned and levelled. The Canon 300D works well for me and I use the manual setting, ISO between 200 and 1600 and exposures of 20 or 30 seconds for clusters (fairly bright so don't need as much exposure) and up to 1 or 2 minutes - depends upon when you notice any trailing if the scope is not quite aligned. The more images you can take to stack the better as it improves their signal to noise ratio. I'm not experienced with using an ETX for photography but as the others have mentioned you will get field rotation if you don't use a wedge. When you have a go at imaging - put up a page like I have share them with us.
