So like many other planet enthusiasts who prefer orthos, I'd agree with this strongly! Plossls are almost as good. Then try to view over a body of water, (sea/lake etc) it may give much steadier seeing. jc This I have tried innumerable times here, and have always had worse results than at high elevations at locales with stable, laminar airflow. I cannot remember one single time when I was near a body of water where the double star and planet observing was not badly hindered. Perhaps, though, being several miles *inland* from the ocean, at a high elevation, I get best results. But not at any of the local lakes on the California coast; nor at the sea shore. This might be a phenomenon related to the topology and wind patterns of the Pacific coast, and perhaps other people living in different areas could give their experiences pro or con. AstroApp |
