SOHO caught the Mercury transit last week, which I found in these two
images, in the first one Mercury's in the lower center http://comsketch.com/sohowithmercury1.gif and in this one it's on the lower right http://comsketch.com/sohowithmercury2.gif Below is my amateur shot of Mercury transiting the sun, the sunspot on the left in the above shots is same sunspot on the right of my shot (inverse optics of a 60 mm refractor using projection method, 12.5 mm eyepiece, the cell of which partially melted, and a 2x barlow) http://comsketch.com/mercurytransit2006.jpg You might also be interested in seeing Mercury fly like a bat out of hell after its transit near the end of this SOHO satellite movie http://www.comsketch.com/sohofastobject.mpg At first I thought this was a comet or asteroid because it was moving so fast, but Starry Night Pro identified it as Mercury. By the end of the movie from left to right the brightest objects moving relative to the stars are, Jupiter, Venus (occulted Sun in center) zooming Mercury and Mars. Regards, Jason H. |

The frames are one hour apart. "Bat out of hell" without real time is cheating. Otherwise, nice pics. Androcles |
