One of the things dogging Christian moral philosophy thoughout the centuries has been the question of pacifism. Asimov gives us absolutely no clues. No robot hurting a human. Suppose someone is going for you? I prefer to have a moral philosopher with some credentials like Aquinas with his concept of "just war", or John Stuart Mill for a completely secular approach. Asimov you see played at being a moral philosopher, and he isn't. As far as robotic behaviour is concerned, this is what the manufacturer programs in. If you want to destroy a target in Beirut and place your bomb with 2m accuracy the electronic system will do it for you. Is this a moral desire? Pass, however Sheik Nasrallah has said that the ****es cannot fight another war in the forseeable future, so perhaps it was right. |
