Ben Franklin knew the highest structure has the best chance to get hit.
The shuttle is a sitting duck for a lightning strike;. They do have a Ben Franklin lightning rod, to conduct the current to the ground,but when you are talking 2 million volts or more its best to keep in mind anything can happen. I can think of ways to have the shuttle safer when parked for days waiting for a good time to fly,but it would take money out of the Mafia's deep pockets;. Bert |

Bert Well Beeeert, the answer is staring you in the face: Fly a bunch of kites in a perimeter around the shuttle. I'll get my wife to hold the string of one of them, that way, if lightning does strike, we'll save the Shuttle. |

Hagar (the horrible) I was thinking of metal balloons. They do use them
here in Florida to save the high electric lines. Bert |
