If it is 1/2" dia - and I have no way of knowing otherwise - and the scope is made in the USA it is most likely to be 13 TPI UNC form (60°). The 5/16 would be 18 TPI. 'pitch' is simply the reciprocal of the TPIi. What Azz was trying to say is that the thread form is different - Whitworth is 55°. It so happens that the UNC series _generally_ have the same TPI as the Whitworth series, 1/2" is one of the few exceptions, Whitworth is 12. JG |
