There's a 12" for sale on Astromart.... you could ask the seller for some
feedback.

Already for sale? Hmmm.

"Why are you selling?" comes to mind.

Personally, I'm not interested in any Dob larger than 8" aperture, that has
a round base. I had an XT10 and it was a PITA to move it around with the
handtruck, and even more of a pain without. I moved up to a 12" scope that
had a round base, and ended up buying a structure for the optics that had a
square base. That made it a LOT easier to move with a handtruck.

I would never buy another Dob with a round base, even in smaller apertures.
I just don't understand whoever thought it was a good idea, or why.

Steven Overholt was in town last Tuesday, the 7th, with a very
lightweight Dob he built. IIRC it was 10" and weighed in at 17 pounds
or thereabouts. He was doing the Sidewalk Astronomer thing, inviting
people to look at the moon. He had a book out on building lightweight
giants. He had a new book with him, A Telescope Is A Spaceship.

As someone who advocates the use of hand trucks for handling big scopes, I
would have to agree with you about those with round bases...

But regardless of that, there's something fundamentally wrong with this ad.

These scopes are so new that very few folks, including the larger dealers,
have even seen one in person, other than in photos, but here's one for sale
for less than retail, on Astromart.

If there was a problem with the scope, or they just didn't like it, or
thought it was of inferior quality in any way, they could just send it back
for a refund to about any reputable dealer...

So unless their cat hopped up on it and ****ed on the primary, or they
dropped the primary mirror on a concrete floor, why would it be for sale on
Astromart for a loss???

I've asked the seller why, and am awaiting an answer...

Could it be a scam? I've seen people claiming to sell $12,000 bicycles
on eBay out of Andora, for far less than market prices. Apparently a
lot of others knew of the scam and created bidder id's like
'this_is_a_scam' and bid them way way up, to alert others.

Does one have to be registered with their own credit card to sell on
Astromart? I was suprized to see the nice add-ons, too.

Clearly, this person HAS a LightBridge. The photo talks to that just fine.

The question is, why is it on Astromart?

If it's a great scope, he wouldn't be selling it, unless it was bought on
speculation, but at this price point, that doesn't seem very likely...

On the other hand, if there was anything of note wrong with it from the
factory, that would be good grounds for a return under warranty. So there
would be no sense in having it for sale on Astromart.

If it were damaged during delivery, same thing.

If it simply wasn't quite up to the buyer's expectations, from a quality, or
aesthetic standpoint, THAT would be legitimate grounds for return with most
dealers...

So what does that LEAVE us?

Or is this ChasLX200 adding to his count again???

It's not anymore. It doesn't list as sold either, so it would seem it's been
deleted.
