Default London planetarium closes for wax stars!

"Mike Dworetsky" typed

Yes folks, not only can I read a map but I know about the various stations
in Greenwich. The closest DLR station is Cutty Sark. Maze Hill, one stop
past Greenwich from London Bridge or other central stations on theline, is
probably the closest. But all of them involve a long walk uphill. This is
out of the question for most disabled or infirm visitors.

At Baker Street, it is approximately 50 metres from the station to the
Planetarium, on level ground.

This would be fine, except Baker Street Station is a *horrible* place
for a disabled person. I know; I was there en route to the Astrofest
yesterday, changing from Jubilee to Circle Line. (there was no Met Line
working)

I can walk about 20 metres with difficulty, and do stairs with difficulty.

There were several long walks, for which I was pushed in my chair, and
many staircases, for which I had to leave my chair while my partner
folded it and lugged it up the stairs.

Greenwich is a large area, but at least there are lifts on the DLR.

I was not impressed by my last Planetarium visit; a 15 minute dumbed
down Disney film show after a long trail round the waxworks. I don't
think it would have inspired any interest in astronomy in a young
person. The way this film show is tacked on as an afterthought to the
waxworks visit is probably why visitor numbers dwindled.
