... That is correct. They (and Mike Dworetsky) should have spotted and understood the 2003 in its full designation, 2003UB313. "Paul B" wrote in message ... Hi Mike, I think What Charles was alluding to is that its "discovery" was announced last year, but it was first discovered by the team in 2003, but they required more observations to determine its orbit and rough size before the formal announcement was made. Very best wishes and clear, dark skies. /Paul B, York, UK. York Astronomical Society www.yorkastro.co.uk "Mike Dworetsky" wrote in message ... "Charles Gilman" wrote in message ... At least they've got the discovery details right in that article, in a broadcast yesterday they were describing it as "discovered last year"! ??? This object was discovered in 2005, which is "last year" since this is 2006. Not sure what you are trying to imply. The new diameter determination was announced this year, but there was an expectation that the diameter would be large, right from the discovery. OK, yes, the object was nothing special until the orbit could be determined, as announced in 2005. The original images were obtained in 2003. -- Mike Dworetsky (Remove "pants" spamblock to send e-mail) |
