The camera certainly shows an effect akin to limb brightening at the exposure levels required to capture the full disk image, but this may be due to the optical charateristics of the PST. It's not uncommon to find the centre of the 'highlight' off to one side - which would be an instrumental effect of course. In the full disk image from the 24th, the original hotspot was quite close to the upper left limb.
