Default Balancing act

How do you know how much weight is needed to balance a LX90?

I have various cameras etc but am not sure how to balance my scope.
It seems that my 'naked' scope is front heavy anyway when I release the
locks.
Any ideas please.

Tony

Take a look at these astro engineering products:

or

or the cheapy option that I took:

The cheaper option does have a few small drawbacks, i.e. not being fully
balanced at all levels of altitude but its still better for the motors and
gears than no weighting.

Chris

Thank you for the info of how to get the balance but I still would like to
know how much balance is required.

Hi Tony

Depends how the weight is distributed and what you've got bolted both on top
of and at the rear end of your scope. I only use the weights when mounting a
guide scope on top of the LX90 and guess that about 2 Kilograms is used to
counter the additional weight of a 80mm F/5 refractor. The refractor is
shifted to the rear of the scope with the weights on the front to try get
the center of gravity balanced.

I've never found it necessary to balance the scope without the above setup
and find that its strange that you say yours is front heavy. My scope's
pretty well balanced with either no eyepieces or an eyepiece attached and
slightly rear heavy with just an an electronic focusser (a couple of hundred
grams?) attached. Surely a camera attached is going to make it slightly rear
heavy? The setup also seems pretty happy with a piggybacked camera and no
counterbalance weights.
