FYI, your name is misspelled "Daoud" on your website; near the bottom,
just below the hit counter and above the "Made with a Mac", is found:

"Tell Daoud you visited!"

Just curious: why "Davoud" instead of the "David" in davidillig.com?

I'm a sort of linguist/translator by vocation (retired) and avocation.
"Daoud" and "Davoud" are both variations on "David."

The web page at http://www.davidillig.com/daoud.shtml explains, but
I'll save you a trip, if you like. The page reads, inter alia, "Other
variations on David include 'Daffydd,' 'Daibhead,' 'Daibhi,' 'Davis,'
'Davoud,' 'Dawes,' 'Dawson (Davidson),' 'Dewi,' and 'Dovid.'"

"Daoud" is Arabic; "Davoud" is more common in Iran and Afghanistan.
"Daffydd" and "Dewi" are Welsh, "Daibhead" and "Daibhi" are Celtic
(that's pronounced "Keltic," by the way,) and Dovid is Yiddish.

Thanks for visiting my miserable little web site.

Davoud, etc.

No, this is a nuke-free zone g.

I'd be happy if he'd just quit morphing. I've put him into my trollfile
several times only to find he has morphed into a new munged address, so I

I found that, too, but just making the sender criteria "Davoud" solves
that problem. If Outlook Express doesn't let you set such a filter, that
would be a good incentive to switch to Mozilla, Thunderbird or the like.

Alternatively, you might wish to use a browser that actually supports
web standards. Netscape on Linux has no problem with it.

Thank you. I always appreciate it when people advise me of problems
with my web sites.

In this case, however, you might want to check your system. The page
loads just fine for me under XP Pro SP2/IE 6.0, and for a neighbor who
is running XP Home/IE (unknown version).

I recommend FireFox to my consulting clients.

The page loads fine using either IE or Firefox. However, both browsers
generate the same error (in Firefox you need to open the Javascript
console to see it). Neither browser recognizes the Pop() object.

Indeed, when I uncheck the "Display a notification about every script
error" checkbox on the Advanced... Browsing tab, the error goes away.
Re-checking the checkbox causes the error to appear once again. Thank
you Dennis.

Firefox shows it as "Error: pop is not defined", which strangely
enough appears in line 27 of the source code. I guess IE isn't so dumb
after all (for Trane's benefit).

Davoud - you have a script error.

I think you may be seeing a JavaScript error. Normally, browsers are
configured to not display them. Lots of pages generate them - I know
because I see them, too. I have my browser configured to display

errors
because I write some JavaScript, and I need to see them for

debugging.

With all due respect, sir, when I review your past posts, I see more
discussion of OT issues than anything else. People scorn the one called
"Min" on a regular basis, for example, but at least he's smart enough to
make it difficult (but not impossible) to trace his origin. I'm not saying
your unintelligent, but you may not be using the best judgement in this
case. Think about the situations you keep encountering, including this
example you share here. You're posting OT, controversial issues with *real*
contact information and you expect people to look the other way. On the
contrary, you *should* be expecting email floods, website excess bandwidth
charges, or just about anything else since you're willingly sharing your
personal info. My own personal solution, if I happened to be in your
situation, would either be to post anonymously if determined to post OT
material or just post in an appropriate newsgroup. Otherwise, what else can
be expected?

My guess is that you're probably retired and bored, just looking for someone
to talk to even if that means getting people a little angry. After all,
what makes more stimulating conversation: a typical post asking an on-topic
question or something that might raise some red flags in peoples' minds?
Rather than engage in the latter, why not find a hobby to keep you busy? I
realize astronomy is only an occasional occupier at best for many of us, but
there are plenty of other things to do.... sports, reading and even just
plain net surfing can take up hours. And don't forget about "live" chat
like Yahoo chat, AOL, and ICQ (just be sure to protect your computer should
you decide to go this route.... viruses are very easy to acquire). If
you're retired, golfing can be a wonderful hobby and you might add a few
extra years to your life from the exercise. Are you married? If not, check
out your local singles clubs or attend church. Then, when you have secured
another outlet and the urge strikes to post something you know you
shouldn't, you can "click" into a mode that will take you to that hobby or
activity you have chosen. The computer will be turned off and you will have
saved yourself a lot of potential aggravation. My sense is though is that
you actually enjoy "stirring up the pot". In that case, the hobby of boxing
might serve nicely.... nothing that I know of, besides running or weight
lifting, relieves built up tension better (well... with one exception... the
"s" word)

Good luck ironing things out,

Al Rhoads

Mr. Charles Taylor, who posts as CLT, has decided to try to punish me
for what he sees as my bad behaviour by publishing two e-mail addresses
that were previously unavailable on the Internet in machine-readable
form. He is also soliciting you, the participants in SAA, to carry out
a denial-of-service attack against my personal web site. His stated aim
is to force me to cease posting on this forum.

Mr. Taylor posted the following under Richard DeLuca's thread "(OT)
Saying Goodbye is Never Easy."

CLT wrote:
It suddenly dawned on me that Davoud has posted his webpage.
It is www.davidillig.com
His address is //deleted//
But his website lists //deleted//

As I recall, we were having a lot of trouble with Shawn until a couple
of people started posting info on the dear boy (and, IIRC, not just
Shawn)

Perhaps if everyone here downloaded every picture on Davoud's website
(just to show how much we appreciate his OT drivel) he would feel \
the love and affection we have for his callous response to a respected
member who is leaving.

Make sure you open all the links at:
http://www.davidillig.com/astronomy.shtml as we wouldn't want to miss
any of
Davoud's photos.

Of course, if his bandwidth expense suddenly increased...

Clear Skies

Chuck Taylor

Of course, if a spambot were sorting through here, it would find:

//deleted: 29 repetitions of two previously unpublished e-mail

addresses.//

I believe that there is profound irony and hypocrisy in this most
mean-spirited and childish behaviour.

Mr. Taylor once issued a caution, in the Yahoo group that he moderates,
concerning the need to protect people's privacy
http://infoarchive.net/sgroup/LUNAR-OBSERVING/1131/.

It will be easy enough for me to fix any damage that Mr. Taylor may
have done. It will not be so easy for Mr. Taylor to recover his honor.

Davoud

Yes, I know Mr. Taylor's e-mail address, his home address, and his
office address; they are readily available. But to get _me_ to reveal
this information you would need to throw me naked onto a cold concrete
floor at Abu Ghraib and stomp on my testicles with your hob-nail boots.
Even then I would try to deceive you.

Davoud the jackass wrote this in a desperate plea for attention:

# Terry Schiavo, an innocent victim of fate, lies dying in a Florida
# Hospice. She has done no wrong, created no legal problems for anyone,

# and is an insignificant drain on the public purse. Medical experts
# agree that she is in a persistent vegetative state and cannot recover

# from the brain damage that she suffered 15 years ago.
# Ms. Schiavo's husband and legal guardian, Mr. Michael Schiavo, wants
# her to die in peace and dignity. Medical experts agree that this is a

# humane solution. The courts agree that her husband is acting in
# accordance with Ms. Schiavo's stated wishes in making the decision to

# allow Ms. Schiavo to die, and that he is legally entitled to act in
# this manner.
# Ms. Shciavo's parents, Mr. Robert Schindler and Ms. Mary Schindler,
and
# Ms. Schiavo's siblings, however, are unwilling to accept her death;
# they have exhausted every legal and extra-legal means of keeping her
# alive, but, by their own admission, remain desparate to do so.
# I propose a Compromise Solution which is just and humane. It is that
# feeding of Ms. Schiavo, an innocent victim of fate who has harmed no
# one and broken no laws, shall be resumed immediately.
# At the same time, Ms. Schiavo's parents and blood siblings, who have
# caused great pain to this nation, have attempted to abuse and
# circumvent the sacred laws of the United States and the sacred and
# immutable laws of Nature, and have caused the public purse to be
# depleted of millions of dollars in pursuit of their private aims,
shall
# agree to be put to death immediately.
# Ms. Schiavo shall be placed under the guardianship of the Republican
# National Committee (RNC), which shall be required to reimburse the
# public purse for her medical care to date, and which shall be
required,
# at its sole expense, to keep Ms. Schiavo alive as long as medical
# science permits, even if that term is beyond any normal and
reasonable
# human life span. Dr. William Frist shall be appointed her personal
# physician for the rest of his natural life and beyond, if it is
# medically possible to keep his body functioning after his brain has
# ceased to function, and if that is not already the case. The RNC
shall
# reimburse the public purse for the cost of all legal proceedings
# undertaken in this instance, to include the cost of implementing this

# Compromise Solution. Dr. Frist shall issue medical bulletins on Ms.
# Schiavo's condition each day at 12:00 noon in the time zone in which
# Ms. Schiavo's person is located, and as early as possible, but not
# later than one hour, after the discovery of an improvement in Ms.
# Schiavo's condition.
# The RNC shall be the sole authority licensed to use Ms. Schiavo's
# likeness on campaign posters (and you can bet that plans for that are

# already underway) and may transport Ms. Schiavo's person as it deems
# appropriate for display in political campaigns. In the event of Ms.
# Schiavo's death, which shall be certified by an impartial board of
# qualified moral and medical experts consisting of George W. Bush, Jeb

# Bush, and Dr. Frist, the remains of Ms. Schiavo shall become the
# property of the RNC, and the RNC shall be the sole authority licensed

# to use said remains in political campaigns, subject to local sanitary

# regulations. Likewise, the likenesses and remains of the parents and
# siblings of Ms. Schiavo shall become the property of the RNC, and the

# RNC shall be the sole authority licensed to display said likenesses
and
# remains in political campaigns, subject to local sanitary
regulations.
# The collective estates of the deceased members of the family of Ms.
# Schiavo shall in no way be encumbered or garnished for the payment of

# the medical or legal expenses related to this instance. Instead, the
# net proceeds of these collective estates shall be divided in equal
# portions between the Hemlock Society and Mr. Michael Schiavo.
# The RNC shall be the sole beneficiary of any and all profits gained
# from the public display of Ms. Schiavo's likeness or remains, or of
the
# likenesses or remains of any of her family members who are deceased
# pursuant to this Compromise Solution.
# Finally, under the terms of this Compromise Solution, Mr. Michael
# Schiavo shall be granted a divorce a vinculo matrimonii if he so
# desires.
# I'm Davoud and I approved this message. I would venture to guess that

# not everyone who reads this will approve.

Ummm... try again. Netscape on Linux may not see the error but it
exists. This has been verified by several posters.

You're too kind.

I don't view him as an amateur astronomer at all. Just someone who uses
the astronomy angle to sucker the more gullible here to listen to his
trolls. Nothing more.

Personally, I favor a pre-emptive thermonuclear strike...
