Well a few weeks ago Double-A asked me how old my wife was?. I felt that
was her mystery(secret) Girls don't give out their real age. What does this have to do with astronomy? Well the universe hides her age very well. Telling the universes age has to go with how much it expanded since the BB. Read the Hubble space telescope was used to examine the behavior of "Cepheid variables. What they showed was the universe could be younger than 10 billion years old(sounds like those girls that lie and end up with mothers 5 years old) I relate that to "white Dwarf stars that are as old as 15 billion years, and some Globular clusters much old still. Mother nature"s age has to be her best held secret. I know she does not like my saying "The universe our solar system is immersed in had a big bang that took place 22 billion years ago Bert PS I can lie about my age(I don't) because those Mexican sweet potatoes push me back to prime time PPS Einstein was right space and time is all organic life has,and it is curved. |

Well Bert, I must say that at least your age for the universe is consistent with those other objects which do seem to be older than the currently stated 13.7 billion year age. As far as I know, those disparities have not been reconciled by mainstream science. You still have my sincerest hopes that your wife will recover soon from her illness, whatever her age. Double-A |

Bert, I liken today's cosmologist on Earth to the carnival side-show age-guesser. Of course, some of those "carnys" are pretty good at telling ages! gg Dr. Why |

Hey all, just a pointer to say check out the thread "phase one for contact". Seems bad news may be a' brewing. Yubiwan has recently posted something unsettling, and our alien friends may be permanently departing because of some humongous screw up that happened here while Pom was visiting. You may want to get the Galactic Council together on this one... Greysky |

Something culturally offensive on the seafood tray? Or perhaps our lovely guests didn't know how to handle sailors! Ha! Ha! Double-A |

Double-A I am getting more and more confused every day. It was my understanding that out observable universe is about 13-15 billion light years, but taking expansion in to consideration, the actual universe is probably closer to 46 billion. Are there actual agreed upon beliefs about these numbers? -- BV Webporgmaster of iheartmypond.com http://www.iheartmypond.com I'll be leaning on the bus stop post. |

Hi Double-A and BV My wife (Ruth) had a stroke and as you might
remember an oxygen machine was delivered free "I called it R2 D2 (like the robot in Star Wars. Ruth smoked over two packets of "KOOL" cigarettes a day for 35 years. Today she left the hospital to go into a rehab center. She can't walk.(To weak) and is on oxygen 24 hours. Still pretty sharp. Still introduces me to the Drs, and nurses as her "crazy husband" that shoots stems of of wine glasses in the garage (They think I'm a sharp shooter) Now for astronomy lets go with gravitational lensing for judging distance of a galaxy that is in back of another. Without that front galaxy the one in back of it would not have light intense enough for us to observe it. Astronomers now should look for strong gravity(concentration of mass in small areas) that is curving light from objects behind them into our line of view. It is gravity that will give the best probable age of the universe. It is gravity that will reveal hidden dimensions. It is gravity that will prove there are as many universes as flakes of snow in an endless storm. It is gravity that will prove there is not a proton differed from one universe to the other.(all perfectly clone from the beginning by gravity, and only their age is different, and gravity will evolve all it created in the same length of time that they will have a spacetime that is exactly like our universe of"NOW" is(some day). It could not be any other way unless you just want to fantasies different make believe realities. It is one gravity all the way down Bert |
