The necessary number of officer candidates appeared after impassioned pleas from the current administration. Now if we can just build a core of dedicated volunteers to replace the outgoing and aging core of dedicated volunteers, we should have smooth sailing for awhile. Part of the problem is that a lot of us who were active evaporated geographically. Bob Naeye went off to Cambridge. Jane and I ran off to Pasadena. Bob Berta is escaping to Michigan. Even Al Stern crawled up to Petaluma. It's also going to be difficult not having the Morrison Planetarium there to act as a magnet for the casual club meeting visitors, though I think it was kind of a bad place for lectures. (Take 60 average people after the end of a typical weekday, put them in a dark room in a reclined position, and what happens? It doesn't matter how fascinating the program is! ![]() Things will be fine ...
