Default Master of Space badge

Too cool: http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?storyID=123008878

I want one. I'd also like to know the heraldic interpretations of those
spiky arms and the little dots on the wreath. (Babylon 5 note: this looks
like something the Shadows would have made.)

Some background can be found at:

The spiky arms are probably a case of: Hey, dude, if we kinda
make it look like pilots wings we might get some chicks....

That seems like a very sound reason. Presumably the spacechicks
could make it serve similar purposes.

Everyone who is, or has been in, the AF missile and space business will no
doubt have an opinion. As an ex-missile guy, mine is that the distinctive
pocket rocket has been replaced with what looks like a rejected design for a
"Sky Captain" promotional toy.

Have you heard about the eye patch becoming mandatory for wear
with the Leather Fetish 'A' uniform?

As a holder of the Space badge, it looks like something that
Ming The Merciless would have given to his minions.

The original one is a lot better and less likely to show up
in a cereal box.

The odd thing is that, according to the regs, there is no
longer a test to see if you have earned the badge. You wear
it when you think you have earned it (of course there is the
number of years in the field suggestion). The badge does not
show up in promotion folders for instance.

Oh, great. We can see the election of 2034 right now - "Space

I suggest the Air Force Instructions have simply not been revised yet to
reflect the new badge. As anyone who served in the military knows, there are
regulations written sooner or later for everything that goes on a uniform.
Proably it will be based on holding particular Air Force Specialty Codes or
serving in a designated "space billet."

Actually, they were revised to remove a provision for
certification. I was in the AF when the original badge came
out and have over 25 (gasp!!!) years of service with the
Active Duty, Air National Guard, and now AF Reserve. So I
think I qualify as a person who has been close enough to
know. When I originally got the badge we had to submit an
application and justification.

The uniform guidance does say where to WEAR badges of
course.

Real missile troops were this badge:

Which earned by actual experience, not a prize for completing a school
or as a indication of ones billet.
