Its so depressing, directly across from my house I have 2 merc vapor
lights they are 300 feet apart and cast light on approx 95 percent of
my yard making my viewing much more tedious.

I recommended hubble light shields to him in a nice way and offered
buying them and paying for the installation but he still won't budge.
I guess I have to get nasty and show him how his lights illuminate the
inside of my house.

I'm just griping

What I'm lately annoyed about is the increasing use of "Solar Lights" that
people are putting in their gardens. Yes, nice and energy conscious (they
power up using solar cells during the day, which gives them 8- 10 hours at
night), but when you put a dozen of them around your back yards or front
yards just so they look pretty at night............

No no no, you don't have to destroy them by .22 or sling shot. If I
remember right, you can get your hands sweaty and greasy. If you touch the
bulb and smudge them with a thick greasy finger print they will pop when
heated up. Again, if I remember correctly, you can do the same with halogen
bulbs. We used to do that to the film students when before they turned on
the stage lamps. A few minutes into the shoot *pop*.

If they use light sensors to turn on after dark, you may find a
couple of good laser pointers aimed just right could shut'em
down while you gaze at the stars. Of course, that's down the
line of actions, after some of the other good advice others have
given you. The sling shot and .22 are satisfying to think
about, but really put you in the wrong. And I'm not sure you
want to do anything to break a mercury vapor bulb, if indeed it
does contain mercury.

I think anything in excess is bad, but the solar lights are IMHO, a good
idea. I have a few back by my pond. They charge all day and then come on at
night, attracting bugs for the frogs. We see less bugs up by the deck now.
The lights I use are LED based, and produce very little light.

Yes, outdoor lighting has been often out of control for quite some
time. The only way to beat 'em is to get a lighting ordinance.

Mercury vapor bulbs do indeed contain mercury. These are illegal
anywhere in Tucson and Pima County. I can still see one south of my
trailer. No one has bothered to turn it in to the county.
