Hi there,

Ok, so my Orion is only a 6"er but it works well and I got it remarkably
cheaply.

I would have a look at the mount itself, as I had a few problems with
the eq3 my 'scope came with. The problems were mainly caused by very
very thick grease! After a strip-down and regreasing using nice, thin
LM10 I found the mount much smoother and free-running...the drive motors
draw a lot less current now and the RA motor even tracks better!

Regards

My son has recently purchased an 8" Orion reflector. The eyepieces supplied
were upgraded to the super plosels. As they do not actually say super
plosels on the eyepiece body, is there any easy way to visually identify
them as such.
Also we are having problems getting the motors to operate consistently.
Sometimes the Dec will work one way but not the other and the same for the
RA. Having tried the motors with the telescope and weight not attatched, and
finding both to be fully functional, might I be correct in assuming that an
imbalanced 'scope may affect this aspect of operation. Note that we do
balance the 'scope prior to use.
