I recently bought a pair of Barska Zoom binoculars :: 12x - 36x 70mm.
At 12x, the image was fine, but when I zoomed in, the left side image was larger than the right side image, and I could not get the two images to combine into one image, no matter how close or far away I placed my eyes. I took them back to the store and exchanged them for another set, and these had the same problem! Is this a problem with zoom binoculars in general, or jsut this brand? Has anybody else used this brand? If so, what has been your experience? Thanks, |

Jeff:
This is definately not a normal Zoom function. I own a variable magnification (zoom) binocular and it brings both views in synchronously. Dump the brand! "Jeff Farinacci" wrote in message ... Has anybody else used this brand? If so, what has been your experience? Probably best not to buy optics typically sold through K-Mart. Capt RB |

Has anybody else used this brand? If so, what has been your experience? Thanks, Good Day Jeff. I've owned a lot of binoculars, both cheap and high quality and my own experience is that Zoom binoculars as with zoom eyepieces are not much good. Quite apart from variation beween eyes the other problem is often a great loss of field of view. I well remember an 80mm scope I did up for one of my kids school years ago, I got rid of their zoom eyepiece and replaced it with a set of 3 kellners. They couldn't believe the result. The field at low power was 2.5 time greater and they could at last find objects easily. Apart from that cheap zoom eyepieces often have poor colour correction. Perhaps you could find some 70mm binocs that use an eyepiece turret or something similar. That would be much better I reckon. A lot of spotting scopes use a system like that. Hope this helps. Regards Cliff Wright. |
