I observed from Hungry Valley, CA (just south of Mt. Pinos), night of Aug 11/12. As others have observed, many earthgrazers in the early evening hours. I caught a 45 degree fireball as I was setting up 9pm. Then another one ~9:45pm. The best one of the night was around midnight. It had multiple flashes & lit up the entire ground. WOW!! I was just loading a new videotape into my low-light B&W camera..which was pointing in that area..so I almost had it on video. Later, there was a 90 degree fireball. There were periods were there was little activity. As the radiant got higher, you noticed the "tear drop effect" where meteors were near the horizon. Many times, I caught the "double meteor effect", where 2 of them appear in quick succession. It definitely was noted for the bright meteors..quite a show! |

From near the OK/TX border I caught this fireball right
next to the Andromeda galaxy... Canon digital at ISO 1600 with 50mm f1.8 lens for a series of 15 second shots (a total of six frames in the following gif movie)... http://www.softwaregod.com/perseid.gif The last three frames capture the minute it took for the debris trail to slowly fade away...
