Hi,

I have never used this group, so sorry if I have flouted some faq or
rules or summat.

Question:

What kind of telescope and size should i get?

I am looking to spend £150-£250 ($200-$350.) Looking around it looks
like i would be best with a 80ishmm refractor or a 114mm reflector.
Are there any dud brands I should avoid. what about false colour in
the refractor and the central blind spot in the reflector. I live in
the countryside and so light pollution isn't a prob. Space isn't an
issue.
Should i spend the extra cash and get a 6-inch reflector?

After searching, I eventually found a selection of dobs he
http://www.acecameras.co.uk/asp/web/...8/prodtype.asp

They are almost all skywatcher skyliner dobs, the 150mm is £215 (a bit
steep, i thought, but i am a newbie and don't know that much.) The
200mm is £335, which I might just be able to stretch to. are these
good scopes for the price, is the prices too expensive for these
models. I would appreciate it if someone could post a list of UK dob
suppliers that have a good selection, decent prices and good quality
models.

Thanks!

Hi,

I Already own the 200mm dob Skywatcher (the f/5, 1000mm, not the new
F/6, 1200mm). And the optic was really good. Now, I use the 200mm Newton on
EQ5, also Skywatcher, and the optic is great to! Here, in canada, the
200mm dobson have a sale price of 499$CAN (575$CAN taxes included) (379$US,
or £206), So the difference must be the custom fees or shipping! So, at £335
you got the 200mm on EQ5. This is too expensive only for the shipping? I
don't know, but the price still cheap for the quality you have. Look for
canadian suppliers, and ask the cost for shipping from there (including
insurance). And you'll see if it's good...

look at www.maisonastronomie.ca (french website, so I think you can use
babelfish web translator on Alta Vista), all price is in Canadian found.

I used to have one of these and although the views at the eyepiece are
ok for the price, a star test showed considerable spherical
aberration.
I traded up to a Guan Sheng made 250mm, and the optics are MUCH
better. If its not a big price difference , get the Guan Sheng 200mm
f6, it has much better optics.
