I'm going to be taking a trip to Florida in a few weeks and have a nice little setup that I think I can bring as a "carry on" on a plane. Rather than bother taking a complete eyepiece case, I was thinking about getting a zoom eyepiece. They are not my notion of an ideal eyepiece, except in this case where I don't want a lot of extra "stuff" to deal with on the plane. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with these? I'm wondering if it would be worth picking one up for the trip. I have the Televue 8-24x zoom (non click-stop version). IIRC, it is the same eyepiece as the Meade (i.e., made by the same company). It has a fairly narrow AFOV (40 deg at 24mm 55 deg at 8mm), but good eye relief (15-20mm). The contrast is not wonderful, but it sure is convenient to say, "let's put a little more power on that. Okay, a little more. Maybe just a little more," without making three trips to the eyepiece case. Paul, It's the same eyepiece as the Vixen, not the Meade. Clyde |
