Do SCT manufacturers pick and choose?

I was wondering if Meade and Celestron put their better ota_s on their
more expensive go-to packages and the not so good ones on their less

Rumours years ago said yes, never proven. They also apparently shipped
lesser units to Europe. None of this was ever substantiated, but with
the relative uniformity of the SCTs now, it isn't such a concern.
