Default how do I cover up/ repair scratched corrector on SCT?

Well, one of my worst fears has happened.... during collimation of my 8"
SCT, I dropped the screwdriver on the corrector and scratched it in two
places. Any quick way of covering up these scratches? They are fairly
light, but still noticeable in a normally lit room.

Thanks,
Jack

Hi:

Likely, these scratches will not hurt anything. Do yourself a favor. Don't
worry about 'em. Oh, and, please, get a set of Bob's Knobs.

Peace,

No practical way exists to fix these at any reasonable cost.

Hi:

I was thinking more along the line of cosmetics. Although I have tested the
scope since and find that its performance is what it should be, if I ever go
to sell it, the scratches could be a problem. Any way of just
covering/hiding them?

Oh, and, please, get a set of Bob's Knobs.

Yes, someone else recommended those to. Will look into them right away,
thanks.

Hi,

I was thinking more along the line of cosmetics. Although I have tested the
telescope since and find its performance unaffected, if I ever go to sell it
the scratches could be a problem. Any way of just hiding/covering them up?

Thanks,
Jack

Best thing to do is just be upfront about it.

Personally I try to disclose every possible blemish in a scope when I sell it.
I am more interested in making sure I have a happy buyer than a few more
dollars in the pocket. Makes sleeping at night easier.

As long as you are standing with your head directly above them, they will be
covered by the tears.

The absolute first "must-have" SCT accessory. They should be standard
equipment.

Hi:

No. Not any way that wouldn't make the scope look worse.

If they're not noticeable when looking through the telescope, don't do
anything with them. I doubt they will have a significant effect. I would
not recommend trying to "fix" them with any kind of scratch hiding
compound (which will fill the scratch in with a material with who knows
what kind of refractive index).

Needless to say, you should probably invest in a set of collimation knobs
(Bob's Knobs, or the ones from Scopestuff, the latter of which I have), to
avoid adding more scratches in the future.

Any serious buyer will appreciate the fact that you didn't make things worse
by trying to hide them, along with the generous discount you will be giving
him/her for a "slightly blemished" scope. g.
