My family is planning a car trip from Albuquerque to Salt Lake City in
the next few weeks. We're bringing along a telescope and would love to take advantage of the clear skies along the way. Here is the route we have planned. Most of it is not interstate, so we are hopeful that there will be some good observing sites not too far from the road. If anyone knows of good spots, we'd love to hear from you. I-25 north to Bernalillo NM 550 north to Farmington 666 north through Cortez to Monticello 191 north through Moab to I-70 I-70 west to 6 6 north through Price to I-15 I-15 north to Salt Lake City Many thanks... What time of day are you leaving (i.e., which of these areas to you
expect to pass through at night)? One between Alb and SLC or do you plan stopovers along the way? Phil David B. Most likely we will spend a night somewhere near the four corners area both on the way up and on the way back, but if there are particularly good opportunities elsewhere along the route, we can adjust our plans accordingly. It's been a 5-6 years since I was out that way, but I found that -- especially when compared to the eastern U.S. -- good observing spots on that route were located roughly 4-5 feet apart, or one field-tripod width.
