Default Any Thoughts on the National Geographic Maksutov????

Hi Jonesy

Someone mentioned that a few strategically placed washers will
clean up the play considerably.

I bought it from this someone, Pete Rasmussen. He has used some shims
somehow. I did get a picture of it and the tripod looks like a camera type
with the EP tray attached.

I was hoping it would have arrived yesterday so I could start enjoying the
daytime and nighttime views this weekend but I guess Canada Customs is
slowing it down.

I've since replaced it with a generic EQ1 mount with slow motion controls.
I've been thinking of trying a Tasco/Nexstar GOTO mount with a Baader
adaptor but I'm still reluctant.

Why reluctant?

Last night I had it out for the full moon... conditions couldn't have been
better.... slight cool and clear, clear skies. I took some pics using a
scopetronix adaptor, 25mm ep and my Sony CD400... very cool, but I need

to
work on my focusing skills. Jupiter was nice and clear with all four

moons
showing.

Could you throw some of your pictures this way? I know I will need to spend
alot of time tuning up my camera setup. I have a Kodak DX6340 with limited
manual control.

The scope is great, I love the easy mirror flip, two eyepieces and large
focus knob. I'd be curious where you got it from and how much you paid.

Pete had mentioned in another thread that he was going to put it in
Astromart for $100.00USD go I grabbed it.

Regards
Brian

Citiwell also makes the National Geographic models... The one in
question is...

You can see the similarities between the two.

Not that I want to open up this thread again but I did buy an Orbiter
3900 and am awaiting delivery.

The above comment about the similarities between the 2 appears to be
more than accurate.

The NG and the Orbitor per the links above are the same scope. I was
trying to figure out the tripod used in the Orbitor picture when I
noticed that these pictures are the same except the Orbitor ones have
been doctored.

It'll be interesting to see what I do recieve.

Clear Skies

Brian
