I found it interesting that you fear the idea of cessation of being.
Personally, I take great comfort in knowing that when I am dead, I am dead.
You see, you are burdened with your thoughts on the subject, and I am not.
I've lost loved ones as well, and it comforts me to know that they are not
burning in Hell, because Hell doesn't exist.

There is no divine being who punishes the wicked after death in a way more
heinous than those of us in life can imagine. That is illogical even to
imperfect man.

Consider, if I mow you down with my car in a drunken stooper, you will only
suffer while conscious, and then shock will protect you, until your life
ends. Yet God visits suffering on life eternal? The folks who dreamed up
that idea, are ass-holes.

Take heart, and courage. Your granda is no more. Soon we will all follow.
Take comfort now in love, joy, and sorrow, for they are a finite gift. Make
the best of them.

AND, whatever you do, don't pass your unwarranted fear onto your offspring.
What kind of mean-spirited parent uses eternal damnation as a threat? What
is this, the dark ages?

Hello everyone! Well i am new here and i need help. Lately i have
been having intense feelings of depresssion do to my fear of death
(no worries i dont have depression, i go to a therapist and am on
meds for a un-related thing but the meds are anti-depressents). I
was raised with no faith but always just assumed there was life
after death, then i released that is is possible that this may not
be so, you may cease to be which is my worst fear. So to get over
this, or at least give me alittle comfort i want a medium, or
someone whom can communicate with the other side, so they can
commuinicate with my great-grandpa whom died last july. I dont
knnow of any place near me to go so i am turning to here. Any help
you guys/girls can give me would be great!

P.S. my email is if you want to contact me
there, thanks!

This sounds a LOT like a troll. End of Life counseling is not
generally germane to this Amateur Astronomy newsgroup.

However, since we are off the topic, a few points:
1.) What on Earth possessed you to post this issue to an Astronomy
newsgroup?
2.) Your fear of death is nature's way of keeping you alive.
3.) If there is an existence after death, you'll find out when
you get there, and your worries will be pointless. If there isn't,
then you'll feel nothing - no pain, no grief, no worries, nothing!
4.) If you want to talk to a medium, psychic, astrologer, etc.;
consult the Yellow Pages in your phone book, and keep your credit
card handy. They don't hang around here very much. If nothing else
do a web search (Google, Yahoo, etc.) for these people.
5.) You won't get much sympathy by posting off-topic to this or other
newsgroups. This newsgroup, in particular, has a vehement dislike of
anything associated with astrology, the occult, pseudo-science, UFO's,
or whatever wierdness suits your fancy.

Cheers,
Larry G.
