The Allure of an Outpost on the Moon
By KENNETH CHANG

If "you" (generally speaking) do not want to go, to pay for the
missions, someone will go eventually the Solar System is out there and
there are lots of things to do (Nowadays Why was someone to desire to
go and climb Everest or spend the whole winter on Antartida). We need
to set as our goal the expansion of mankind to the Solar System (What
happened to China when they turned their back on exploration during
16th Century?) I hope that new "ducths" and "spaniards" go and explore
the Solar System.

For some, it is the steppingstone of the Moon, not the distant goal of Mars,
that is the irresistible destination in the human venture into space that
President Bush will propose tomorrow.

For geologists, Moon rocks could tell much about the first billion years of
Earth's history. Not only will a lunar telescope be more sensitive than the Hubble Space
Telescope, but it should be able detect galaxies and stars far fainter than
will be seen by Hubble's planned replacement. It may even pick up light from
the very first stars of the universe half a billion years after the Big
Bang. "That's something you could do brilliantly from the Moon," Dr. Angel
said.

I agree 100%, Carlos. The benefits of space exploration are beyond
calculation. I think that a public policy of putting a base on the Moon and
landing humans on Mars is the best thing that we can do.
